HAT TRICKS FALL DESPITE THREE FROM DOMBROWSKI

Oct 9, 2021

DANBURY, CT – The Danbury Hat Tricks (2-6-2) wrapped up their weekend tilts against the Jamestown Rebels (5-4-0) on Saturday and despite getting a hat trick from Gabe Dombrowski they ultimately fell to the Rebels 4-3 in overtime.

Danbury opened up the game putting a flurry of pressure on Jamestown, peppering first-year netminder Greyson Garrity early and often eventually going up 1-0 on a goal from Gabe Dombrowski (1) who buried a slap shot on a breakaway. Jamestown got on the board on a wild bounce out of the corner that put the puck on the tape of John Lundy with a wide-open net.

The second would open up with two straight goals from Gabe Dombrowski (2, 3), and the Hat Tricks took a 3-1 lead. Near the end of the second, the Rebels would again take advantage of extended offensive zone time and score with 1:30 left.

“Gabe is a big spark for us,” said Hat Tricks coach Billy McCreary. “He creates opportunities for himself and his line-mates with his motor.”

Gabe Dombrowski had himself a night. The second-year forward notched a hat trick on Saturday, the third and final goal of which was a highlight-reel goal where he ripped a wrister top corner to put the Hat Tricks up 3-1.

Following the third goal from Dombrowski, Jamestown started to control the pace of play.

“We lost our focus a little bit,” said Billy McCreary. “We need to keep our focus on controlling what we can control.”

The third period was all Jamestown, thanks in large part to the Hat Tricks penalty trouble. Danbury took three penalties in the first eleven minutes of the third and eventually surrendered a power-play goal to Luke Devries to tie it up.

The overtime period was quick, as captain John Lundy scored 1:10 into the frame on a delayed penalty to win the game 4-3.

The Hat Tricks took three of four points this weekend and now look ahead to a week of recuperation before they welcome the New Jersey Titans for a mid-week tilt on October 20th.
