DANBURY, CT– Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks goaltender Edvard Nordlund has officially announced his commitment to the University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks hockey team for the 2021-22 season. Nordlund becomes the second Jr. Hat Tricks goaltender to earn a Division-I offer, with battery mate Geno Pichora set to join the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers in 2022.
“Being able to pursue my dream of playing D1 hockey at a program with such a history of developing great team-minded hockey players along with getting an excellent education is a terrific opportunity that I’m honored to get,” commented Nordlund. “My coaches and teammates in Danbury are the ones that have made this possible. The coaches in Danbury truly care about the players, and I don’t think I’ve ever been part of such a great group of guys.”
Nordlund, an ’01-born Stockholm, Sweden native, led the Jr. Hat Tricks in wins (9) and goals-against average (3.03) in his first season in North America. He recorded the first shutout in team history on February 25th, 2021, blanking the Maryland Black Bears with 19 saves in a 2-0 victory.
“Edvard checks all the boxes when it comes to character, leadership and the ability to be a game-changer,” explained Danbury head coach Billy McCreary. “The commitment he brings on a daily basis is unparalleled, which became even more apparent during hardships that COVID presented.”
“We are extremely happy for Eddie and his opportunity to pursue his career as a student athlete,” he continued. “We want to wish Edvard and the UMass-Lowell program much success in coming seasons.”
